Karen Miller
Watch Commander

Commander Miller was hired as a Police Officer for the Village of Addison in 1985. Commander Miller was assigned to the Patrol Division until 1993, when she became a full-time D.A.R.E. / Crime Prevention Officer for the Department.

In 2001, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to Planning, Research, Development, and Grants. Commander Miller also became the CALEA Accreditation Manager for the Department and supervisor of the Crime Prevention and D.A.R.E. Units, including the Student Participation Center (SPC), the Henry Hyde Resource Center (HHRC) and the Fitness Program.

In 2005, Commander Miller was transferred to supervise both the Traffic Unit and the Crime Prevention Unit. During this time, both units were expanded to increase public safety and information and increase officer / community relations. Commander Miller continued overseeing operations at both the SPC and the HHRC.

In 2006, Commander Miller was promoted to the rank of Watch Commander. She was assigned the afternoon shift in addition to continuing to oversee both specialty units of Crime Prevention and Traffic. Commander Miller continued overseeing operations at both the SPC and the HHRC.

In 2007, Commander Miller was assigned to oversee the development of the Community Response Unit. This initiative was approved by the Village board through the budget process. This unit will be responsible for the Photo Enforcement Safety Program, Crime Free Multi-Housing Program and an aggressive police enforcement program targeting high calls for service areas and quality of life issues for our residents. Commander Miller continues to oversee operations at both the SPC and the HHRC. Commander Miller is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. She is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 226.

Commander Miller is an Ironman Triathlon finisher, a veteran of more than 35 marathons and a Spin Instructor.
