John Moffitt
Watch Commander
Commander Moffitt joined the Addison Police Department in 1988 after serving a four-year active service enlistment as a Security Police Officer in the United States Air Force.
While assigned as a Patrolman, Commander Moffitt served as a Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician assigned to the Major Crimes Unit, Certified Arson Investigator, Juvenile Officer, Physical Fitness Instructor, I.P.M.B.A. Police Cyclist Officer, Gang Enforcement Specialist Officer and Certified Police Instructor.
Commander Moffitt has maintained several additional duties, as a member of the Addison Police Department's Safety Review Committee, Physical Fitness Committee and Honor Guard Unit.
In 1999, Commander Moffitt was assigned to the Traffic Unit as a Crash Investigator and Second Division Vehicle Enforcement Officer after obtaining certification through the Northwestern University Traffic Institute.
In May of 2005, he was promoted to Sergeant assigned to the Field Services Division and was the Major Crimes Evidence Technician Supervisor. He was also assigned as the Supervisor of the Bike Unit and served as a Patrol/Field Training Supervisor.
Commander Moffitt served as the Traffic Safety Unit Supervisor from July 2006
until January 2008 and was instrumental in the implementation of the
Department's Overweight Truck Enforcement Unit.
Commander Moffitt is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.
In January of 2008, he was promoted to Watch Commander of Field Services where
he oversees the Department's Field Training Program and the Traffic Safety/Truck
Enforcement Units. Commander Moffitt also oversees the Department's Evidence
Technicians, Juvenile Officers, and Community Service Officers.
