Michael Tierney
Sergeant

Mike Tierney is a 26-year veteran of the Police Department. He grew up in Addison and graduated from both Addison Public School Districts. He attained an Associates degree in Applied Sciences from the College of DuPage, a Bachelor's degree in Management from National Louis University and a Masters degree in Management at Benedictine University. Sergeant Tierney was a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command in December 2008.

In May 2008, Sergeant Tierney was assigned as the supervisor for the Traffic Safety Unit and Truck Enforcement Unit. During his career, Sergeant Tierney was assigned to Addison Trail High School as liaison officer and has been a member of the Criminal Investigations Section. Sergeant Tierney assists Sergeant Roger Saran in coordinating the Evidence Technicians for the Department.

Sergeant Tierney was a member of the Addison Substance Responsibility Commission and has been a member of the Addison Police Pension Board since 1999. Sergeant Tierney was recently re-elected to the Board of Directors for the Illinois Public Pension Fund Association.

Sergeant Tierney is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board to teach recruit officers at police academies throughout the State. He has taught several topics at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy for several years.
