Mark VanStedum
Deputy Chief of Police, Field Services
Deputy Chief Mark VanStedum began his career with the Addison Police Department in 1987,
serving as a Patrolman in the Patrol Division. His next assignment was in the Detective Division as a
Detective where he served from 1991 to 2002. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant
in October 2002 and was assigned to the afternoon shift as the Beat 5 supervisor.
During this time, he also supervised the Foot Patrol, Tactical and Bike Units. In July 2005,
he was assigned to the Detective Division as the Detective Sergeant and was appointed to Commander of the Criminal Investigations/Youth
Division/Tactical Unit in June 2006. He held this position until his promotion
to Deputy Chief of Police, Field Services, in January 2010.
Deputy Chief VanStedum has an Associates degree in Police Science, is a graduate of the Police Training Institute,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a 2007 graduate of
Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, Class 233. He is a member of the West Suburban Detectives Association, the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigations Association, the National Association of Bunco Investigations, and the DuPage County Senior Police Managers Association. He
also serves on the Criminal Justice Program Advisory Council for the Technology
Center of DuPage.
During his career with the Addison Police Department, Deputy Chief VanStedum has received numerous letters of commendation
and awards from the Addison Merit Review Board and was recognized as the Village
of Addison Employee of the Year. His achievements were also acknowledged through
various awards and letters of commendation from the International Narcotics
Enforcement Officers Association, Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago
Transit Authority.
