JUVENILE CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS
D.A.R.E. Programs
Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs teach children resistance techniques to avoid the pressures of drug use and other negative behaviors. D.A.R.E. programs are taught in all public and parochial schools in Addison.

Addison Police Explorers
Area youths who are interested in a law enforcement career learn about police duties through training, involvement in community programs and ride alongs with police officers. Crime Prevention Officers conduct "First Nighter" events and coordinate the program.
Illinois State Police Gang and Violence Prevention Supplement (VEGA)
Teaches 6th or 7th grade students facts about gangs and how to prevent violence in five lessons.
McGruff House Program
A safe house for area children as they travel through neighborhoods to and from school or while playing. Houses display a placard in the window for recognition.

I-Search Fingerprinting
At various times and locations throughout the year, I-Search fingerprints are offered to parents for their children. The prints are kept by the parents.
Back to School Safety Program
Signs displayed around town near schools advising motorists that schools are open. Public service announcements on Addison cable TV are also included in the program.
Safety Patrol Training
Crime Prevention Officers work with safety patrol coordinators from each elementary school to provide training for each student assigned to safety patrol.
Bike Rally/Bike Safety Program
Organized bicycle safety competition for children that educates them about the rules of safe bicycling. The program gives children the opportunity to interact with a police officer while having fun.
Student Participation Center (SPC)
Crime Prevention Officers work with members of the Addison School Participation Center Council to provide a safe after-school environment at Indian Trail Junior High School. Crime Prevention Officers provide crime prevention related programs at the SPC.
Halloween Candy Screening
Crime Prevention Officers conduct screening for candy collected during trick or treat hours. The candy screening is conducted at two separate locations on Halloween.
