Citizens Police Academy

What is the Citizens Police Academy?
The Citizens Police Academy is an 11-week program designed to give participants an understanding of the operation of the Addison Police Department. The academy consists of a series of classes held once a week. There is no cost for residents to participate.

Each class will provide an overview of various areas of law enforcement. Classes will include presentations by Addison Police officers, tours of the facility and explanations regarding the use of police equipment. Several demonstrations will take place during the academy, in which participants will be allowed to participate.

The academy will conclude with a graduation ceremony. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion and a unique Addison Police Department Citizens Police Academy shirt identifying him or her as a graduate of the academy.

Why Participate?
The Addison Police Department is committed to the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing and is committed to developing partnerships with citizens of the Village.

The Citizens Police Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to develop direct lines of communication with the Police Department.

Benefit
Citizens participating in the academy will have a working knowledge of the Addison Police Department and its functions. Graduates of the academy will have the option of continuing on to the Alumni Citizens Academy and partner with the Police Department to assist in identifying existing problems and possible solutions for issues that affect the quality of life for Addison residents.

Who Can Attend?
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and must live or work in the Village of Addison. An application for the academy must be completed, which will be subject to a background check before final acceptance for the class.
