Sergeant Riley began his law enforcement career in 2002 after joining the United States Army as a Military Police Officer.  He served for six years on active duty which included three deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During his deployments, he was twice awarded the Bronze Star Medal.  Sergeant Riley transferred to the United States Army Reserves where he continues to serve with the rank of Sergeant First Class.  He has a Bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement from Western Illinois University.

Sergeant Riley joined the Addison Police Department in 2012 and attended the SLEA Police Academy where he served as a recruit Squad Leader and was awarded the Leadership Award.  He was assigned to the Field Services Division, where he served the Department as a Major Crimes Evidence Technician, Field Training Officer, Juvenile Officer, Master Firearms Instructor, Rapid Response Instructor, Tactical Medical Instructor, American Sign Language Interpreter, Crisis Intervention Officer, Rifle Instructor, Glock/AR-15 Armorer, Designated Rifle Marksman, STOPS (Strategies and Tactics of Patrol Stops) Instructor, and Use of Force/Defensive Tactics Instructor.  Sergeant Riley was awarded the Addison Police Department Outstanding Officer of the Year Award in 2018.

Sergeant Riley was promoted in 2023 and is currently assigned as a Patrol Supervisor in the Field Services Division.  He also is a member of the Addison Police Department Color Guard and a member of the DuPage County Multiagency Enforcement Response Investigation Team (MERIT) – Forensic Investigators Team.
