Commander Dempsey started his law enforcement career with the
Addison Kevin DempseyPolice Department in 2003 working as a Patrolman. He was assigned to the Investigations Section in 2006 as a Detective. In
2013, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to the
Field Services Division. As a Sergeant in the Field Services Division, he
was responsible for a team of Day Shift Patrol Officers and fleet 
maintenance and served as a Field Training Supervisor. Commander
Dempsey previously supervised the Department's Evidence
Technicians.

Commander Dempsey was promoted to his current rank on June 15,
2020. He currently serves as the Watch Commander for the Field Services Division. 

Commander Dempsey is trained as an Evidence Technician, Juvenile Officer and Field Training Supervisor and is a Certified Truck Enforcement Officer. He previously served as the Department's Asset Forfeiture Coordinator and was formerly a member of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force.

Commander Dempsey received a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Elmhurst College prior to his police career. He is a graduate of Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. He is also a graduate of the Police Mid-Management Role in the 21st Century program conducted by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board's Executive Institute.
